Veterinary Technician Job Description
Responsibilities
- Assist with reception and customer service duties as needed.
- Assist veterinarians with animal examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Handle animal restraint and restraint equipment to facilitate examinations, vaccinations, and diagnostic procedures.
- Perform laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and basic diagnostics to support clinical decision-making.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments, and laboratory results using veterinary terminology and documentation standards.
- Provide pet care services including feeding, administering medications, and monitoring recovery post-procedure.
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with cleaning, scaling, and oral examinations.
- Operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines, ensuring proper positioning and safety measures for animals and staff.
- Manage animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning kennels or cages, and monitoring animal physiology to ensure optimal health conditions.
- Apply proper handling techniques and behavioral understanding to ensure safe interactions.
- At least 4 years experience as a veterinary assistant and/or technician.
- Hands-on veterinary technician experience or veterinary critical care experience is required.
- Laboratory experience involving sample processing or diagnostics is required.
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology, animal physiology, and anatomy enhances your effectiveness in this role.
- Experience with pet grooming or pet care services demonstrates a well-rounded skill set in animal welfare.
- Knowledge of X-ray operation and aseptic techniques is advantageous for supporting diagnostic procedures.
- Ability and knowledge to monitor and conduct anesthetic procedures is required
- Strong dog handling skills combined with animal restraint expertise will contribute to a safe working environment for staff and animals alike.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable setting expectations and boundaries with clients.
- Team-oriented mindset and willingness to cross-train and cover.
